DPR LIVE is a Korean Hip-Hop and R&B artist who has released many albums and EPs in his career. One of my favourite albums by DPR LIVE is his Second EP titled ‘HER’.
DPR LIVE’s overall branding is very artistic. He uses a lot of visual elements to further his musical expressions and conceptualises every album with interesting things that elevate the overall listening experience of his albums. I felt that this particular album lacked a little bit of artistic elements compared to his other albums so I redesigned it as a whole. The HER EP features music that showcases the idea of love, passion, and the intensity of desire.
This project was a Personal Fan Project that I made to further my exploration in creating musical album concepts, as I am very passionate about music. In this project, I tried to create further connections to the message that was in the music of the album, and elevate the design of the overall album to create a ‘Special Edition’ version of the EP.
I felt that the original design of the EP was slightly underwhelming if were to be made as a ‘Special Edition’ album, as although it features beautiful photography and overall design, it was missing some elements that would make it look slightly better and more artistic, which in my opinion suits his current image as an artist. DPR Live and the DPR team has done many ambitious album concepts after this album, such as creating a ‘message from space’ concept for their ‘Is Anybody Out There?’ Album, and i would like to create a special edition version of this album that when in print, looks like a notebook filled with visual imagery of the artist’s thoughts and emotions, with each page representing each song that is featured in the album.
DPR does not tend to feature a photobook in his albums, but for this one, I conceptualised one. The album does not have traditional forms of photography, but rather concept images for every song that is present in the album. My intention with this was to evoke the emotional aspect of DPR’s music, especially the songs featured in this
album. DPR has done forms of music representation in their albums before, but they have mostly covered the album in its entirety. I would like to create a visual imagery of every song rather than only the entire album, to show the correlation between music and the visuals that create resonance in the eyes of the audience.
